The Academy Of Cinema in cooperation with the Arhi School of Drama and the University of Indianapolis is pleased to
announce a series of free lectures and writing workshops with Chris Canaan, a leading Hollywood screenwriter, who has written
twenty three produced feature films and movies for television and who has also won an Emmy Award.
Last September,
Mr. Canaan held a writing workshop on the island of Skopelos, where “Mamma Mia,” was being filmed. For more information

The free lecture will be held at the University of Indianapolis’ Cultural Center, 5 Markou Avriliou
Str., Plaka, on Saturday September 27, 2008 at 20:00. The subject is the creative process entitled, “THE CREATIVE
SPIRIT, Storytelling: The Heart Of The Art.”
The second free lecture is entitled, “THE CREATIVE
SPIRIT,” and it will be held at the Booza Cooperative Theatre, 57 Kolokotroni Str. Monsatiraki, on Saturday, October
11, 2008 at 21:00. Three subjects that will be covered in the lecture, “The Heart Of The Art ,” and “From
Acting to Writing” also “Using The Chekhov Method of Acting for Theatre & Film.”
WORKSHOPS
A five day writing workshop will begin on Monday, September 29 to Friday, October 3, 2008 starting at 17:30 to 20:30.
The location of the workshop is at the University of Indianapolis’ Cultural Center, 5 Markou Avriliou Str., Plaka. The
workshop will explore the creative process through writing, it is entitled, “THE CREATIVE SPIRIT,” “Storytelling:
The Heart Of The Art.” The tuition for fifteen hours is 205 euros.
The second and third workshops will he
held at two drama schools. This workshop, “Understanding Script From An Actor’s Prospective,” is an expansion
of the course given on Skopelos last September. Actors will work together developing a short screenplay and will act in certain
scenes.

The fourth workshop for writers and actors is entitled, “The Creative Spirit” and combines two
subjects, “The Heart Of The Art ,” and “From Acting to Writing.” This three day workshop
will explore the creative process for those who want to write - a personal story, novel, short story or a screenplay. The
workshop will begin on Monday, October 13 to Wednesday, October 15, 2008, and be held at the Booza Cooperative Theatre, 57
Kolokotroni Str. Monsatiraki. Every day at noon to 19:00 with a one hour break.
The three day tuition is
180 euros for 18 hours. If space is available, students can pay a daily tuition of 75 euros.

CHRISTOPHER CANAAN
CHRISTOPHER CANAAN, actor turned writer, won an Emmy with Michael
Mann for the mini-series,“Camerena: Drug Wars.”
He has written twenty-three features, movies for television and mini-series for CBS,
NBC, ABC, The Family Channel, Fox, USA, Show Time, Hallmark and Starz Encore, including “Cries
Unheard,” with Hillary Swank, “Robinson Crusoe,” starring Pierce Brosnan, and Dashiell Hammett’s The
House On Turk Street,” starring Samuel L. Jackson. Additionally, he has scribed “Gabriel’s Fire,”
starring James Earl Jones, and was co-creator of the CBS series, “Walker Texas
Ranger.” His screen adaptations include the works of Elmore Leonard, Ann Rice and
Robert Ludlum.
Canaan holds an MFA in Acting from The University of California San Diego, where he developed
workshops based on the Dr. Claude Steiner’s book, “Scripts People Live.” He has performed in regional theater
at the Old Globe Theater, the Los Angeles Music Center and the professional repertory companies at Tulane University in New
Orleans, Dartmouth College, and Tufts University. In New York, Canaan studied acting with Stella Adler and Nikos Psacharopoulos.
For the last several years, Canaan has taught screenwriting for the Writers Program at UCLA Extension and lectured
at various universities, including University of California, Berkeley and California Lutheran University.
Canaan
is a member of the faculty at the Academy of Cinema, at the Karamanos Studio in Athens, Greece.
Lifetime Network recently completed principal photography for his current film, “Little Girl
Lost.”
